Sunny St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans Sightseeing

One of my favorite things to do in New Orleans on a good day is to escape the craziness of the French Quarter, go uptown and stroll along St. Charles Avenue. Also known as “The Jewel of America’s Grand Avenues”.  I highly recommend it to those who really want to visit New Orleans but don’t want to get in all the crazy party happenings that they think the city only has to offer.

A QUIETER NEW ORLEANS

Spending the first few years of my life here Uptown, I always found New Orleans to be very family friendly and this side of town shows that! I was actually quite oblivious to New Orlean’s party side until I was much older, moved north and people would always tell me their crazy stories. The streetcar rides ride through the center so it’s easy to arrive and I suggest taking a good afternoon to spend up here just taking in your surroundings. I have easily spent a couple hours just walking along the street. The homes are absolutely stunning if you’re into architecture and definitely worth checking out! Below are a few of my favorites – enjoy!

This is another one of my favorites, especially as a kid. I mean, it’s like a real-life dollhouse!! There is a similar blue one next door to it that felt like “his & hers” homes. How could a little girl not love this? The little girl in me still does!

That greenery and those hanging plants! Porch goals.

So I have this issue where I tend to get attached to certain homes in various places. Just telling myself one day I’ll buy them all!  I have my favorites in Newport, Martha’s Vineyard, Hamburg, etc. and this is my New Orleans one! It’s the one I come back to it everytime I’m here. I have to say I was a bit disappointed the last time I saw it as it used to be a perfect shade of pink! It’s still a beauty but if I get my hands on it, it’s going back to pink! Do you have any attachment like that to your favorite homes while traveling? Which ones out of the above are your favorite?

We drove down St. Charles in a massive rainstorm and it was still some of the most beautiful sights I’d seen in architecture. Such a fun self tour.

It has been a few years since I’ve first visited New Orleans, but I wouldn’t mind visiting again someday. I actually preferred the quieter side of it, too, especially Magazine Street. If you haven’t visited already, I also highly recommend checking out House of Broel’s Victorian Mansion and Dollhouse Museum.

I have always had a love for the old Victorian Style houses. We have quite a few near where I live and I just love them. While I probably wouldn’t want to live in one, they are wonderful to look at.

Yes, here in New England we have a Victorian style home by the beach and I absolutely adore the style of it! And the fun colors you can have with them! The only downside is that they are usually quite old and can come with some problems if not treated properly.
